Dead Wood?

I love wood; I suppose it's just as well as I've worked with it for nearly every day of my (34 years) working life. But it's great in this form too - long dead and rotting, and it's pretty remarkable that this tree, up at Gatton's Nut Wood, is still standing! I say dead but in a way it is still full of life with creatures like beetles and their larvae, woodpeckers, spiders, moss, lichen, fungi... and a lot of fun to paint too.

  2. I reckon you ought to be exhibiting and selling your artwork, Jerry. Have you had any of your paintings published?

  4. Thanks guys. Graham, as you know, I get paid to paint fairies, dragons, lettering, celtic knotwork etc. in acrylics on harps to tight time limits. So I keep the watercolours just of things that I choose to do and just something for pleasure and no pressure (that said, next piccie might be in acrylics).

    1. Hi Barbra, glad you've enjoyed it. Thanks to you too - after looking at your artwork I then saw that you had won some art awards which didn't surprise me one bit!

  6. Hi Jerry, thank you so much for visiting and becoming a follower of my blog. I have looked through your blog and thoroughly enjoyed every post and feel very much at home here :-)

If only I could draw! I have always longed to be able to. The paintings I have seen on here are just lovely and to be a harp maker too!! Thomas sounds a very talented young man also, I do hope his chair problems have been solved now.

I will definitely return as often as I can.

    1. Thanks, saying you 'feel at home here' is a very lovely thing to say! Not only was I drawn by your wildlife postings but I was struck by your optimism when you were unwell you made it clear you would be back - hope things are progressing well. By the way, Thomas' chair is all patched up now - took him to Sheppy today and he had an amazing time.

  7. I really like this painting. You're so right. You can hardly call it dead when so much lives in it!

  8. Thanks Kelly. I think that sometimes we can be a bit too tidy in the countryside (certainly here the UK). When a tree finally falls, it's best left if possible, as it's still playing an important role for many fabulous creatures.
