How was your holiday?

We've enjoyed tasty Goose
with Black pudding
and Christmas pudding...
and all this and more...

and especially being with family...

and also spending some time in places like this.
But I have been wondering what my friends in blogland have been up to this holiday?
HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all -
I hope you have all had a great holiday and are looking forward to a wonderful 2013!

  2. Dear Jerry, is the time when the home gives me maximum comfort! What a comfort to be on the couch with the computer on your lap to write while the tree lights blink hypnotic and I'm digesting our dinner tete-a-tete! The family gets here in exactly 16 days, then 'this' day will truly be "the first day" of the year 2013 together! I like to see your family with crowns on their heads ... in Sauze restaurant in the V & A Hawkins (10 years ago ...)we had these dishes characteristic of England ... and the crowns!
All the best to you and your beautiful family, Rita.

    1. Hi Rita, I love reading a little of your family life in Italy which will be even better when the rest of your family visit soon. The paper hats were inside our homemade Christmas Crackers. We made them so that we could put better presents inside to match each person (but the jokes were as bad as always!!).

  3. Happy New Year to you - Wishings from the North of Denmark after a heavy snowstorm followed by lots rain.
In Scandinavia we are celebrating Christmas Eve with family and friends having a nice meal (duck with stuffing etc. and riz á l´amande). After the meal dancing and singing around the Cristmas-tree and at last the presents. A long time to wait for the young children, but this our tradition. Here, too, Chrismas is time for family gatherings.

    1. Thanks for telling me about your celeations in North Denmark. I think you often have colder weather than us as we are protected slightly by the Gulf Stream. I think riz á l´amande must be like rice pudding with almonds (I have never had it)? Happy New Year.

    1. Thank you Jane, Goose is our favourite at Christmas as it tastes similar to Duck but it needs to be big because there is less meat on it compared with a Turkey. Hope you also have a wonderful and serene 2013.

  10. What a feast Jerry. It looks fit for Kings which you all were with your traditional Christmas Cracker hats. Just like us. I'm glad to see others actually wear them too. It wouldn't be Christmas without them and the bad jokes. Looks as though you had the same fayre as us except for the fabulous goose. Never tried it. I will have to learn how to cook it and to organise myself to order it in time too. Happy New Year to you and all your family. Take care xx

    1. Thanks Laura, I love your commnts - yes the crackers are a bit of daft fun that we wouldn't be without. We buy them as kits that come with the hats. My family love my high quality jokes (they just don't realise it yet) so the cracker jokes are very bad by comparison. We name each cracker so that we can get little presents to suit each person. Btw - yes give goose a go next year, if you like duck you will love goose and the fat makes the best roast potatoes ever!!!

    2. Jerry you made me laugh with your bad jokes story. Reminds me of my hubby's bad jokes. Is it in hubby's job descriptions to be rubbish at jokes then??? lol Love the homemade cracker idea. Take care. x

  11. Feliz año nuevo a ti y a tu familia, Jerry.

    1. Great to hear from you Francesc. I hope you and Sonia had a fantastic time away. How did you celebrate? I'm sure enjoying good company and plenty of that amazing Spanish food and wine!! I think you would have enjoyed trying ours too. Karen loves cooking for us all and this year she accompanied the goose with locally made black-pudding wrapped in bacon which was delicious and different to the ususl 'pigs-in-blankets'. God bless and Happy New year to you all.

    2. Hola Jerry.
Sonia.

    3. Hola Sonia. Thanks for all the extra information. It sounds as though you had a lovely time and your food sounds just the sort of thing I love! I think your wine was probably better than my Marrow! I am guessing that the cava español was for you and Toro for Francesc??
